His promises are NEW every morning!

It’s amazing to me how God can speak to me through the scriptures.  The last couple of weeks I have been kind of laying low with posting and focusing more time on reading scriptures and praying.  As I was reading Ezekiel a couple of verses just jumped out at me and I just wanted to share a few of my thoughts.

From Ezekiel 1:19-20

19 And I will give them singleness of heart and put a new spirit within them. I will take away their stony, stubborn heart and give them a tender, responsive heart, 20 so they will obey my decrees and regulations. Then they will truly be my people, and I will be their God.

I don’t know if you are like me but I struggle with reading the Old Testament sometimes but  this last year I set out to read through the entire Bible and so far I am at Ezekiel.  I’m just crusin’ through these books because they are all about Israel’s sin and God’s punishment for that sin all the while I am thinking “How does this apply to me?”  Then from out of nowhere come these verses which are a promise that God has just laid out there for me.  Just like water for a thirsty soul God’s word just renews my mind and gives me the exact words I needed to hear from Him that day!  Of course these verses are highlighted now in bright pink so I can always go back to refer to them.

This has happened to me several times through the Old Testament and I am really starting to love reading it because it reveals so much of God’s character.  We hear so much about God’s love but not very often do we hear about His wrath and anger toward injustice or sin and that is just as important if not more important than His love.  If I really understood Him, maybe I would not take sin so lightly, like it’s no big deal, when in the eyes of God SIN is a very big deal.  He would not have sent Jesus to die needlessly if sin was not a serious issue!  The more I am reading the more I understand God’s Holiness and that if I want Him to work in me and through me I must let Him deal with my wicked and sinful heart.

Jer 17:7-10

7 “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord
and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.
8 They are like trees planted along a riverbank,
with roots that reach deep into the water.
Such trees are not bothered by the heat
or worried by long months of drought.
Their leaves stay green,
and they never stop producing fruit.

9 “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things,
and desperately wicked.
Who really knows how bad it is?
10 But I, the Lord, search all hearts
and examine secret motives.
I give all people their due rewards,
according to what their actions deserve.”

Those are just a few of my thoughts for today!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Wonderful thoughts, Crystal. You are right. We do need to read the Old Testament too (I have a heard time with it myself – except for the Psalms and Joshua :))…We do need to see the Bible as a whole to understand why God needed to send Jesus.
Thank you so much for sharing.
    Be blessed today and always…

  2. Hi there,

You don’t know me but I stumbled across this blog when i googled “his promises are new every morning”, I thought it might have been a verse and I was trying to find a reference. I’m glad I did though, and I hope you don’t mind if I add this to my blog list. I read through this entry and then went back and read through it again. The verses are so powerful they hit me like nothing I’ve ever felt before.
    Thanks for posting!
